With a Medieval layout, the building became a Palace towards the end of 500, becoming the subject of continuous transformations in the following centuries, until it reached the present appearance in the neoclassical age.
Since 1998, the building houses the municipal museums of Recanati, divided into several sections with evidence documenting the history and art of Recanati, from prehistory to the present day.
The archaeological section allows you to know the organization of a Neolithic community that lived in this area and who disappeared during the Iron Age.
The art gallery, which houses masterpieces from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, as the paintings by Pietro Domenico da Montepulciano and Ludovico da Siena, is most famous for the extraordinary work of Venetian painter Lorenzo Lotto (1490-1556). They range from his early masterpiece known as the "Polittico di San Domenico" (1508), to the charming "Transfiguration" influenced by Raffaello but following a total anti-classical style, ending with the unforgettable "Annunciation", an absolute masterpiece.
The section of Modern Painting brings together a collection of works by local artists such as the engraver Giacomo Braccialarghe and restorer and art critic Biagio Biagetti.
