Every last week in July the small town of Offagna turns into a real medieval village: streets and squares come alive with shows, markets, antique workshops and expositions, everything in medieval theme and the ancient tradition of the "Contesa della Crescia" comes back to life. The latter being a reenactment of typical medieval tournaments involving archery, crossbows, spears and maces. The competitions involve the four districts of Offagna: Sacramento, Torrione, Croce and San Bernardino.
During the medieval festival locals wear period costumes, shops adapt their displayed goods and fittings accordingly, the whole village is lit up with torches while wandering minstrels, street acrobats, storytellers and musicians animate the streets and alleys within the town walls. Not to be missed the delicious culinary specialties sold in taverns and stalls, among which you will find the famous "Crescia", a type of flat savory bread stuffed with different fillings like sausages, cooked herbs, ham and cheese just to name a few.
On the closing day, the spectacular firework show is a must see. Our tip: to enjoy the pyrotechnic show at the best move a bit outside the walls so to watch it from some distance.
