As an ancient hydraulic system from pre-Roman times, this is a place where many legends of the local tradition focus. Here on the Conero, locals call it "Devil's Hole" ("Buco del Diavolo" in Italian), a "wound" down the mountain that goes into the darkness and which is said to lead to an altar with a golden hen. To get out alive you will have to guess the name of the demon that lives in the mountains and write it on the altar with your own blood.
