An interview with Marco Giacchetti, owner of the restaurant Da Giacchetti at Portonovo.
How and when the restaurant started?
The restaurant Da Giacchetti has a large private beach with wooden cabins, sun beds and umbrellas. We are in the south side of Portonovo Bay, at the foot of Mount Conero, in a location full of charm.
In 1959 my father Harold and his brother Dario decided to open a bar, and some cabins, that over time has evolved into one of the most popular restaurant and beach resort in Portonovo Bay.
What are the main features of the restaurant?
The restaurant specializes in fish dishes. Our location is definitely one of the main features. A romantic dinner on the beach, candlelight, in the outdoor seating: is a unique experience for all those who are on vacation in the Riviera del Conero.
We also have a large room with sea view and a terrace, ideal locations for family meals and to celebrate anniversaries and weddings. Besides the restaurant there is also a cafeteria service.
What are the characteristics of your cuisine?
Ours is a traditional cuisine, which incorporates typical tastes of our territory. We like to rediscover old recipes and propose them in a more modern way.
Among our dishes we recommend the Raguse (sea snails) in porchetta, linguine with seafood and mussels in each preparation: marinara, ‘impepati’, au gratin or fried ... after all we are in Portonovo, the home of wild mussel, approved by Slow Food.
