In Portonovo Bay there are two small lakes particularly interesting, the Great Lake and Deep Lake. The first is located near the Pier of Portonovo, while the second near the church of St. Mary of Portonovo.
These two are brackish water mirrors that provide a stable shelter to sedentary species, such as coots and moorhens, and they are a natural rest stop to migrant flocks of grebes and herons, all species that can be observed easily thanks to a turret ideal for birdwatchers.
